I knew that with Bubba walking on Saturday that it just couldn’t be a bad day! My surgeon called tonight from MGH with the results of my MRI. My liver is clear of cancer!! The spot is just a plain old lesion that he says will not affect me in the long run. My spleen is enlarged but it is not melanoma related!! This news could only be better if they had already done my sentinel node biopsy and told me that that too was clear! What a good night!!
One mother’s search for information about mothering thru melanoma.
On Oct, 12th, my world changed forever! I was told that I had a Stage IV Malignant Melanoma. My first thought was, "What about my children?" My diagnosis has changed a bit since it was really premature to assign me a stage without surgery or scans. As of today, I am a minimum of Stage II and that to me is good news!
As I began scouring the internet for information about this disease, I realized I had a lot of questions pertaining to my children. Specifically, breastfeeding my 10 month old. What was this going to do to him? I couldn't find a whole lot of information, unfortunately.
This blog will not only be about my journey into the world of melanoma but about my search for answers as to how this disease will affect my children and the many aspects of their care. I hope this information will be able to provide others with some answers.
